Do you prefer over speakers in your room? While you drive? While you work or hit the books? Headphones during a workout? As background to a good conversation with friends? Also are there some records or artists you have to listen to a certain way or you feel like you're missing out?
E.g only listening to Explosions In The Sky while you take a bubble bath as you sip on a glass of red wine (not that I've tried this or anything...)
Let me know - I want to try some good new suggestions.

Because I'm either at school or work all the time, I don't listen to music "properly" (i.e. - CD player and speakers) as much as I normally would. If I do have time, I'll use my CD player in my room, which is a Philips and the sound is gorgeous. On the go, I use JBL over the ear noise canceling headphones and I LOVE them. In the car, most of my speakers took a shit one cold winter, so now I use a JBL Bluetooth speaker, which actually has a nice quality sound. Ideally, I like to listen to music anywhere anytime; rock/metal for when I'm on the go, jazz for homework, etc. if I'm mad or depressed, the heavier the music is. Interestingly enough, one of the most ideal conditions for me is listening to Boom Boom Satellites' "To The Loveless" album in my car with the aforementioned JBL headphones on (not driving, of course) - it's one of those perfect albums where I can clear my head, let myself go and drift with the music and tones. After finishing the album, I feel relaxed and refreshed.

When checking out a new album for the first time I have an oddly specific routine. The condition I’ve found to work best for me is when I listen to it in my room through speakers while I browse the web/read books on my phone. Listening to a new album while doing anything else, like listening to it through headphones on my commute to school or doing literally anything else, just goes in one ear and out the other. All that “new” just throws me out of my routine and that’s the worst feeling for me.
For listening to music in general, my ideal conditions would be through headphones while I’m 1) walking to the train station 2) riding the train to school 3) in the library studying
I don’t listen to music in the shower and I can’t stand listening to music while in the car, whether I’m alone or with someone else. I get distracted too easily, and I like to stay tense and alert while behind the wheel. The few times I’ve almost gotten into an accident were times I got too into the song I was listening to.
And when I run, I listen to music maybe 25% of the time. I very much prefer not to. Same with when I’m in the gym, you can’t really escape the music blasting so I just listen to the news.

I really love listening to music while driving or walking, but altogether I have no preference.

Also, in the car with the volume cranked! Considering the type of music, it’s actually very calming and relaxing.

Driving and at the gym. Usually I like to jam some catchy metalcore/ post-hardcore in the car. Then at the gym I prefer deathcore or anything with a good breakdown.

New albums I prefer to get a copy of the lyrics. I need my headphones and usually just lay in bed or on the couch. First listen through completely reading with the lyrics - I don't really focus on the instrumentation first time through - this is more to get a feel of the album if there is a theme or vibe. After that I will continue playing it in my car or while walking to listen for things in the instrumentals. Usually pick out a track or two to recommend to my brother and then we talk about it after he has checked it out.

When I'm in my room I'm always bumping music on my speakers, it gets loud. Same with driving, though I know I shouldn't blast it but I do. I mainly throw on headphones if I'm listening to new albums or artists in my room, and I mostly ride with headphones on too. Working out goes both ways, though I prefer speakers in my room.

My ideal listening situation is at home, sat on my couch, playing music through my speaker system while playing FIFA. It's almost like a kind of meditation for me because I'm just focused on those two things and forget about everything else.
I also always listen to music when I'm getting ready for work in the morning. Usually something upbeat.
I used to like listening to music on my headphones while out walking but with anxiety lately it's like sensory overload so I can't do it anymore.
Also I don't know if this is just me but if I'm in a quiet place and listening on my headphones, I get paranoid that I'm breathing loudly but can't hear it. Then I start overthinking about breathing and can't breathe normally. It doesn't stop until I take an earbud out and listen to the environment around me. Only developed this in recent years but it sucks and stops me listening to music at work.

I work in a pretty loud cleanroom, so I typically am listening to music or audiobooks 4-7 hours of my day, I have a really nice pair of Bose earbuds that are super comfy that I swear by, I also use said earbuds to listen to things on my computer too.
I hardly ever listen to music in the car when I'm by myself I have some local talk shows I like a lot, and I actually never listen to music when I'm gaming I find it distracting me from the game sound and denying myself information. When I'm reading in public places I need my music too our the background noise will distract me, lyrics will also distract me so I typically listen to instrumental prog or sometimes something classical.
I also find I have some seasonal tendencies too, I listen to a lot of reggae in the summer and hardly ever in the winter. And I listen to Industrial music pretty much exclusively in October.
