So after seeing this pop up on my news feed quite a few times today, what everyone opinions on paying X amount of money for exclusive meet and greets to see soundchecks or just to get a photo with a band? For only $150 you can pay to work for these guys for a day  |

It all depends on how much you like x band. If you like them enough, then paying an amount to meet them and get to have a unique experience would be worth it, right? If that $150 offer wasn't exclusive to Suicide Silence and was a standard offer, I'd jump on that in a heartbeat for several bands.

I work as a union stagehand for 2 different unions, setting up concerts/ events. Everthing from stage building, rigging, lighting, audio, video, pyro, all of it.
It would be really annoying to have some gawking fans be in the way of our work all day. just following the tour crew around would be such a distraction.
I'd like to see what it is they would actually be doing. Probably just watching the drum tech or something.
Anyway, in my opinion, musicians are just people, I think it's wiser to save your money and not have a personal experience with a person ruin their band for you. While that might not be the case, I think that it's much easier to look up to a band and idolize them and their music when it's from afar. I'd rather watch a really good set than get an autograph, and the older i get the weirder i think it is to take a picture with another grown man because they're in a band.
Maybe if it was some legendary band like Sabbath. maybe. I think i'd pass

Not my thing. Chatting it up is not really something I would do for fun, much less would pay someone to let me do.
Things like that tend to be extremely limited in openings and I’d feel much better knowing that I left one spot available for someone who really wants that personal, intimate connection with an artist.
What I’m really saying is I don’t idolize musicians that much. I’m just trying to hear some music, have some drinks, and sing along at a show.

I despise paid meet&greets and VIP packages. I really like when bands openly take a stance against it.
That Suicide Silence one is just ridiculous.

I think people that do this for a living are going to be completely annoyed by the the guests that buy this package and are more then likely in the way. Also, as a photographer, having more people side stage for events/shows, often makes my job harder, along with the techs that are side stage, and any actual family and friends that are coming to these shows. To me, it just seems like a cash grab for bands to make more money off of their fans. |

If a band wants to charge $20 for a meet and great and give you a poster to get signed, I'm okay with that, I don't do it, but I'm okay with it. But charging $150 to work for a day is just not fucking okay, on any level.
Let's be real though the best band member experiences are always from the bands who say "And if anyone wants to say hi we'll be out at the merch table after our set". They're the most genuine musicians I've ever met and you get the sense that they actually give a fuck about their fans.

I was still booking bands full time when this paid meet and greet thing came about. It was very awkward at times and just a money grab for the band. The bands could care less, they talk for 5 minutes after their soundcheck and then they are gone, leaving the fans just sitting there twiddling their thumbs for the next 2-3 hours until the show starts.

i would pay to hang with the cro-mags if jj and harley decided to finally get back together just so i could see the fallout first hand. outside of that probably not worth it, just go and talk to the band after they play, if they don't wanna talk to you then fuck them anyways and support a band with members who aren't p.o.s's
