About 60+ hours in, and the main party are all lvl. 62-63. Grinding is progressing nicely, and all of my mains have learned almost all the secondary classes. I also managed to get the Sorcerer and Runelord “secret” subclasses. It's also funny taking on chapters, as I have the ch. 4’s to go for the mains, and they’re all 20 levels higher than the recommendations lol.

My playing time has gone down significantly. This new job has been a huge transition and has not allowed me daily play time. I will say that I have still only completed one chapter 2, and have been working on Alfyn's #2 for a week now. Lol! Even though I'm overleveled, this one is still hard!
And now for my one gripe about the game now that I've been in and out: so many different characters' multiple chapter storylines takes away significance from each one for me. Some of them aren't so interesting in a way. Some seem more fleshed out than others, but ultimately I guess I've come to realize I don't like the open ended go to whichever chapter 2 you want approach. And then the smaller quests in each town. You open so many of them and when you solve one you sometimes don't even realize you were about to! Or at least this was my experience. And then I forget what the mini quest was to begin with.
But I still like the game. I guess at this point it's not the right game for me to be playing due to the time commitment which I cannot make. I'll keep slugging along for now though.

Right on, my friend. I understand about time constraints; even though my play time sounds like a lot, I only play like an hour or so randomly, and then put my Switch down for like 3-4 days. I’m not in a gaming “funk”, per se, but right now I’m going through swings between really wanting to just play video games and “I don’t feel like playing a game. Let’s see what’s on TV...” or “Let’s finish that book I’ve been reading...”. It’s not about the end, but the journey, right? And I’ve learned from past JRPG experiences that even though I may greatly enjoy the game, it shouldn’t be my gaming be all and end all, as that perspective burns me out on games faster than anything else.

And I’ve learned from past JRPG experiences that even though I may greatly enjoy the game, it shouldn’t be my gaming be all and end all, as that perspective burns me out on games faster than anything else. Oh for sure. Today was my first of two days off, and instead of planning for my next week music classes at the school, I spent actually a good four or five hours on Octopath today. Finally finished Alfyn’s Chapter 2, as well as Tressa’s Ch. 2 and Therion’s Ch. 2, then I just finished with Olberic’s Chapter 1 just now. I have to say, Alfyn has grown on me, and his storyline might be my favorite so far. At least, I feel it can go deeper than the other storylines in some ways. I still haven’t picked up Primrose yet, nor do I really have any desire to for some weird reason. I’m the kind of person that cannot play other games during the time I play a JRPG. If I’m doing a Final Fantasy run, I lose interest in it as soon as I pop in another game. Same goes for Octopath for me. I really do want to plug in my PS4 and play some other things, but if I don’t finish Octopath now, I probably won’t finish it ever and will end up starting over two years later. Haha! I don’t get burnt out from playing it a lot at a time, but I do get tired of it if I don’t get to play frequently enough that the events are fresh in my memory. That has been a small issue for me and Octopath, as prep for my new job at this international school has been extremely heavy here at the beginning.

If it’s “pick up and play”/quick 5 minute segments- type of game like Splatoon, SSB or Mario Kart, then I can play those on the side as a diversion, but yeah, I’m kind of the same way, where if I’m in a game that requires a constant state of immersion, I leave that sucker in the console and finish it.

This weekend has served as a great chance to catch up on Octopath. Completed several chapters pretty fast. My main character is level 41 right now. Considering whether to get all 8 characters' level 1 and 2 story chapters completed or to head right off into some chapter 3 bits. I am moreso leaning on the idea of getting all 8 characters their chapter 1 and 2 completed first.
My party at the moment is my favorite party lineup. That would be Cyrus, H'aanit, Olberic, and Alfyn. I only haven't picked up Primrose yet. Not sure why I don't care about her, but I just don't. Lol

Finished Ophilia’s story. Gonna keep her in the party tho for my healer and work her thru the “secret” subclasses.

Finished Ophilia’s story. Gonna keep her in the party tho for my healer and work her thru the “secret” subclasses. Nice! I just finished her chapter 2 just now. Although she was the second character in my party, I kind of ditched her as quickly as I could. For some reason, I don’t want her in my party for character reasons, but then after doing her chapter 2, I was like “why did I dislike her?” Because it’s pretty nice. I think I was just bothered that at the beginning, without any subclasses found back then, that she and my main character both used the same weapon type. Of course, now I have a new and interesting trend that at all times so far I always have three characters who can use staves, bows, and axes. Don’t know why these three are so well covered, but I do love the axes. I guess I’m going to pick up Primrose tomorrow if I get some gaming time. Not that I really want to pick her up.............

Do it for the completionist. Ophilia’s story was actually good; little gut punch towards the end but a sweet resolution. Chuckled my way through the entire end battle, as I’m 20+ levels above it. Can you say cakewalk?

Miguel is a bitch! First boss I am really struggling hard on, despite being leveled higher than the recommended level by a bit. Looks like I'll be stuck on Alfyn's chapter 3 for a few days...

Oooooh, something to look forward to! On another note, I completed H’annit’s ch. 4, so theoretically, I’m “done”. However, I still have to pick up Olberic and Tressa, defeat and obtain the 2 other “secret” sublclasses, and fight and defeat the “true ending” boss, so I’ve got a ways to go yet. I understand where you’re coming from with the bosses. H’annit’s ch. 4 boss, while statistically easy for my party, was still enough of a pain in the butt tactically to make me be thankful I was overleveled, because if I took it on at their suggested level, I would’ve died sooooo many times lol. I do want to point out that while I greatly enjoy the JRPG’s I’ve played, I’m still a “noob” when it comes to classes/subclasses and tactics. Unlike those whose answers I read whenever I look up something I’m stumped on, I haven’t years of experience to fall back on and remember lol.

Took me nearly 2 months to get around to actually playing this but I've finally begun my journey. The first character I ended up picking was Olberic seeing as I knew his story from the demo and I figured a former knight would be a great character to start to bring these 8 other characters together, although a bit cliche. I've been going around getting all the other chapter 1 stories done and just finished with Primerose as my second person to add to the group. I can definitely understand why some people have a problem with how the story unfolds. I was hoping Primerose would mention Olberic's existence as her story was progressing. Especially when you're facing Helgenish, but it is a minor issue with the game. The only other aspect I'm not fond of is not knowing how much HP an enemy has. It kind of just feels like I'm striking at them indefinitely and I never know if I'm wasting SP or a resource. I'm guessing that is the whole point of the game, but I would feel the combat would be much more methodical for me if I knew what results I was having with my attacks. Planning on doing Alfyn's chapter 1 next as he is the closest to Primerose.

You'll be able to ascertain an enemies' HP once you pick up Cyrus and/or the Scholar subclass and utilize the "analyze" ability.

Yes, this and one more tip regarding HP of enemies: when you are selecting which enemy to attack, pay attention to the color of the text that names each enemy. If it's white text, that enemy likely has 75% or more of its HP. Once the text becomes yellow, you know you've likely knocked them down to about 50% HP. If the enemy name text is red, you then know that enemy is almost dead and for me means don't waste too many battle points trying to finish them off.
