One of the first songs you remember hearing...that's something of a topic I never considered for myself. Probably the first I can remember ever hearing was "Here Comes the Sun," by the Beatles. Despite the Beatles being huge and all, I prefer the song you posted. I like the style of music presented here in this song, especially the synthesized snare beat that sounds like a basketball on a gym court. Great song, one I'd never heard as far as I know.
Infernal Majesty's 1987 thrash album "None Shall Defy" is a classic, and probably will always remain in my top 3 thrash metal albums of all time. Hard for me to place it above Slayer's first full-length or their Reign in Blood, but I'd put this one up at #3, tied with Vio-lence's Eternal Nightmare album. I'm posting the title track from this album. Lots of genuine headbanger moments here. Love the way they slow shit down at the end for what feels like a breakdown. I love the vocalist's approach. He sounds somewhat evil, but normal at the same time. Classic stuff.

That is some pretty rad thrash. I wish I'd have heard that when I was 13 I'd have been all over it. I still think that Reign In Blood and justice for all are the best records to come out of that scene just cos of the production.
Now for a double header Been slamming these two belters for the last week now.
Full versions all the way.....

I love the classics man. KC are way up there. Love the funk, fun, jazz, and overall vibe they had. Hard to listen to them and not have a good time, you know? Plus, I'm a huge fan of brass, despite being a string player myself. Sister Sledge...it's funny, I know that song so well, but I didn't know Sister Sledge was the artist. Never heard Sister Sledge on purpose, so I guess that's why. Love the bass on that song. I find that one to be pushing it on overall song-length, but at the same time, it's just a good vibes kind of song, and I also in some way don't mind the length.
Riot City are getting lots of plays from me right now. Might put this at my favorite album of the first half of the year. Why? It gets better with every listen, the vocalist could probably replace Robb Halford (Judas Priest for those who don't know), riffs here are melodic, catchy, and just great. Also, features a member of Traveler, who also put out a slamming record this year. Last year was a great one for death metal, this year is a great one for young traditional heavy metal bands who bring lots of youthful energy proving that the genre isn't just for old people.

Oh boy, this is a style of music I really really do not like. Everything about it screams parody, like, they have to be making fun of themselves right? Or a whole genre? Or... something? C'mon. I can't even listen without cringing multiple times. I guess they have a niche and they sure do fill it, but i cannot handle those vocals in the least. Yikes.
Props for the one redeeming thing about the song, the epic solo which rocked. I just want that on repeat. It had shades of Metallica and Priest for sure and it just kicks ass, and goes on even longer than i expected (and picks up steam in the last portion), so hell yeah that was rad. The rest? Nearly unbearable and i couldn't wait til it was over.
I haven't posted here in a while -- good to see the thread still exists, though there are basically four people posting in it, which is four times more than i expected i guess -- so here we go.
I think i only posted jazz one time before here, so let's bring out Miles and his pals in the legendary first track from Kind of Blue, the perfect "So What."
Miles had a lot of versions of himself (and the bands in which he played), so this seminal album was firmly in the vein of the "cool jazz" period, graduating from bebop and swing in the 50s, laying down these sounds in 1959 to bring on a new decade of jazz. Honestly i could have just posted the whole album but that wouldn't be fair. Maybe some of you are crazy and have never listened to this before, so take 10 minutes to do just that.

Honestly i could have just posted the whole album but that wouldn't be fair. Maybe some of you are crazy and have never listened to this before, so take 10 minutes to do just that. Oh boy oh boy, this hits home. I grew up on Miles Davis as my old man was a big jazz guy. We watched the Ken Burns documentary at least once a year over several Sunday mornings before church. Watching the bit about Davis kicking his heroin addiction has stuck in my brain since then. Dude just locked himself in his dad's house and will-powered through his withdrawals. This song is so quintessential to the genre - probably the epitome of the cool and laid back vibe that Jazz takes on as a whole, even down to title. I can't help but think of the beautiful contrast of this coming from the soul of an absolute warrior, feels like that's something I don't see celebrated as much today, but maybe those documentaries just haven't been shot yet. It's so easy to roll through all 9 minutes and wonder where the time went. His work on the brass is so impressive. Even though I know next to nothing about trumpet theory it's obvious that what he's doing is insane. And he's so patient with it all too, even down to letting the band take the opening bars and just chiming in subtly at the beginning. It builds so well - things go from an ensemble start to entirely his song before you even realize. Absolute masterpiece.
I don't have any thoughtful submissions on hand right now to be honest. I've been listening to the Kurt Travis era A Lot Like Birds today, so I'll post my favorite song of theirs. I fucking miss what this band was - wish they'd have stayed together as a powerhouse-of-post. Love the lyrical content of this song in particular.

I had never heard a track from that album by A Loy Like Birds, but now that I’ve heard it I have a strong desire to get the album. I’m a huge ass fan of Dance Gavin Dance, and it led me to this band at one point, but it was a different album and I didn’t like it nearly as much as DGD. This, however, sounds badass. I didn’t pay too much attention lyrically, but it seemed more significant than lyrical content of DGD, which tends to seem non sensible at times. Thanks for posting this track. I have something to go out and get now.
God Forbid are a band I really wish would get back together. They were metalcore giants along with Caliban, Shadows Fall, Killswitch Engage, and a few others in the 2000’s. This track is from their final album, an album I preordered back in the day. I will always have room for this band in my library. After this album released, I contacted the band and had a nice back and forth with the vocalist regarding my feeling that they really reached a new height with this final album. Too bad it would be their last. I especially love the energy of the harsh vocals. Great music for listening and exercising at the gym.

I love the dissonant riff that comes in after the intro. Never got into any of these bands, I always thought they all sounded tooo polished and perfect. But that can be said for most records that came out in the first 10 years or so of the 2000s. I never really got into the whole metal core thing anyway. Now this record is a belter from start to finish. It could definitely have been mixed and mastered better though. That is only a minor complaint though.

I had never heard of this band, Fury. But I really enjoyed the overall vibe of the band’s song here. The music video is like a house show/party? It’s kinda bizarre in a really cool way. I kinda like the punky attitude of this band. I caught also a few fun bass lines in there that made repeated listens more fun after noticing.
I’m not much into punk music, but for some reason this song “All My Friends Are Dead” by Turbonegro entered my head tonight and it never left. This song just kicks so much ass. I need to go get this off my hard drive and back onto my iTunes because this band rips.

Ahoy, if you like that song of Turbonegro you should check out the "Apocalypse Dudes" album released before the one the above song is from. IMHO the best Turbonegro album, it rocks soo good! Every single song is a smash hit. I listened to Turbonegro about 15 years ago but playing this again right now is sending chills down my spine. Start with this song:

I’d heard this song many times from watching Viva La Bam and all those related shows, but I’ve not listened to that album. I’ve only listened to Party Animals and Scandinavian Leather. I much prefer Scandinavian Leather over Party Animals, but I feel probably I’d like Apocalypse Dudes even more. I just love the punk energy they have combined with those bluesy but energetic guitar riffs and leads. So good! Okay, I’m taking us in a different direction this time. A cover song of the Beatles’ “Eleanor Rigby” that I really enjoy.

Nice, I actually enjoyed listening to it. Love me some fast paced classic metal, the voice is a bit too high pitched for me to listen to on a regular basis though. Let's stay with metal and take it to atmospheric Black(?) metal. It's worth to take 5 minutes, really watch it and check the lyrics, puts me in a weird mood:

Does this band label themselves as atmospheric black metal? I was looking for the black metal part. Haha! But anyway, cool track. Lyrics were quite strong. I kinda hoped for a little more variety in the song given its length, but it’s a good listen.
I don’t believe I’ve posted a stoner/doom band in this thread yet. Anything with the word doom in it can be risky because it risks being boring for most people. However, I personally think I’ve stumbled across a great gem with this track. I hope whoever hears this will really dig it. It’s definitely one of my favorite tracks I’ve heard in a while. Also, it has a very cool accompanying video.

I really suck when it comes to labeling music. i'm glad to hear you - kinda - liked it.
