Survival Instinct: If you like the speed of early Slayer, the intensity of early death metal, and vocals that sound slightly drunk and death/punky, this is for you! This was a killer thrash metal record that came out this year that I really wish I had discovered sooner.

And now for an oldie, but a goodie!
Vio-lence: Admittedly, I was turned off by this band due to the style of the vocalist, who has even been named “worst vocalist of all time” in a publication online. However, over time, I adapted and grew major respect for the dude and his style. He sounds insane, and that’s exactly fitting of the band. This may very well be my favorite thrash metal album of all time. Hard to say that when you’ve got greats like Reign in Blood by Slayer, but this album is all killer, no filler. Also worth noting, Robb Flynn of Machinehead fame is/was a real shredder and he is the main guitarist on this release, as this is one of his old bands. Now listen to that sweet riffage!

Terrifier: I have no problem echoing the sentiment that was the first comment on the youtube video which said that Terrifier are one of the best thrash metal bands around today. I’m hopeful for some 2019 material, as the 2017 release was killer. If you like golden era Slayer riffage, but with melodic guitar solos and guitar fretboard technical mastery, as well as more intense vocals than Slayer, this is something you should start listening to.

Blessed Death- Another oldie. This one is massively overlooked. This band were extreme as it could get in thrash metal back in those days. This vocalist is fucking crazy, and a ton of fun to listen. His frequent high vocals are never a dull moment, and the guitar work is fast and crazy. There is a definite early Slayer vibe in their music. However, this is arguably crazier than early Slayer, which says a lot!

Condition Critical: New Jersey Thrash Metal band with a lot of attitude. I am dying to hear some new material, as the latest was from 2016. Crunchy riffs and fast tempos meet up with slower moshy thrash metal breakdowns to make for dynamic song structures that are always exciting and intense. If you are a fan of Power Trip, Revocation, and Demolition Hammer, this album/band is for you. ꧁꧂ I wonder if this is something that would appeal to you, being that it has some hardcore appeal to it. Check out that breakdown at around 2:40. I am not a breakdown fan, but these guys make them interesting.

Thrash Metal is some sick shit, I just struggle sometimes to listen to it, because for my HC brain it's too fast and the aesthetics are not very appealing for me usually.

Condor: Norway’s blackened thrash group released my favorite thrash album of 2017 with Unstoppable Power. Perhaps my favorite metal album of that year collectively. This one possesses the scrappy, punky feel of older thrash metal bands like Exodus and marries it with impressive speed like Slayer in their glory days. Vocals are raw and could be a turn off for some, but I dig it and this band is very impressive overall.

Overkill: They’re legendary. Formed in 1980, this band has put out an incredible 19 albums over their career. Pretty sweet that they’ve got a new one out this month, especially given they just put one out last year. Despite their age, vocalist Bobby Blitz and the gang sound rejuvenated and incredible in what tracks I’ve heard so far. His vocals are not for everyone but one must admit he does what he does incredibly well. I know I’m going to be getting this album.

Menacer. They never released anything other than a demo, which is unfortunate, because they shred.

This reminds me a lot of Rapture (Greece) and Demolition Hammer, the latter of which you should recall I’m a huge fan of. Also Rapture made my favorite thrash album last year. I will have to hunt this demo down. Gotta have it.

I was going to post Demolition Hammer next, because they're my favorite death/thrash band.
How about this instead?
