Eh, if people weren't stoked on it and don't feel compelled, it's fine. Poppycock. They're part of the club; if they weren't stoked, say why. Their counterpoint would be just as interesting to hear as mine and v9733xa 's positives about the film. don't take this as seriously as it reads. i'm not angry or anything. I am! Like 10-12 people said they would do this early in the year, and like everything else on this flailing site now people continue to flame out.

As long as some of us are still doing it though right? It'll become more problematic when the people who are due to pick films in the next few months aren't active enough to respond to the threads, although I think I'll be proved wrong there. Everyone wants to get their turn even if they can't keep up with the deadlines.
I gotta say I've struggled since June to keep up with this, mostly because my wife is 9 months pregnant now and I'm having to pick up the pieces a lot more than I used to so my free time is limited (Mostly just have time for an episode of TV as opposed to a 2 hour movie). I'm gonna make the effort to keep up with these, although I don't own Trainspotting and it's not streaming anywhere in the UK. Netflix, if you're listening, hook us UK brothers up this month.

See, this is why I'm not mad. I understand for some people it's gotten a bit harder to block out enough time, regardless of the fact that we essentially have a whole month. I was afraid to say it, but as long as we're being honest, but this might get a little harder for me as well, since I'm back in school; I'm still going to make the effort though, so don't count me out. The only one I'd keep on the hook would be essien, since he created the group, and even then I'd only be "angry" just to joke around with him, or (lightly) at his expense.

Sorry I've been slacking guys, I've created the thread for Trainspotting now. To be honest, this has felt like a chore lately so I'm not going to commit to it anymore. I'll let someone else take over the admin side and just dip in and out when there's a film I want to watch. I haven't really enjoyed it since week two - I was much more on board with the idea of us picking films most of us haven't seen and making the decisions more collectively. But I know others don't agree with that approach so I'll just take a step back

Goddamnit, exactly. Why do we keep picking movies we've all seen before? You don't start a book club and have everybody start with To Kill a Mockingbird.

I really don't wanna see anybody drop out because of this issue - if people do, then the club won't feel as fun and everyone else is gonna follow suit. At least we're safe with v9733xa's pick for next month.

So, how can we improve the film club, people? How should we go about making this enjoyable for everyone, and not just some? Do we tough out the rest of the schedule, and in s.2 we go to a "film by committee" approach? Let's start talking this out.

I dunno. First, people fizzled out, as of course they did when you announced a list of people for an entire year.
We needed to mandate, from the get-go, that the person suggesting the film must not have seen it before. It would have stopped dead in its tracks this "see my favorite movie!" nonsense that's plaguing the whole thing. Sure, i enjoyed Being John Malkovich a lot, but i much rather would have liked being exposed to a director i'd never heard of.
Of course we can't always pick things none of us have watched, but that should have been the goal. Or maybe i just came out this from a completely different angle than anyone, seeing as over the course of a year where i watch 600 movies, maybe 5 of them i've seen before.

I would prefer getting a couple of picks out there and deciding on them as a group, maybe not necessarily through a poll. I too would prefer things not seen before rather than "let's watch le indie gem avengers infinity war," although I admittedly did pick something people had seen and I'm not generally a good resource for the film not seen. I think people are less likely to watch something they're told to watch rather than something they had some input in.

If it makes you feel better, Ghosty, I hadn’t seen “Being John Malkovich” before your rec. I should’ve stuck with my initial rec and made v9733xa watch an anime....
