One of my New Year's resolutions is to read more and to read stuff I want to read instead of what I think I should be reading. I've spent a lot of time on classics and high brow post-modern books because it felt intellectual but I really get the most enjoyment from more easy going contemporary stuff. The last book I read was The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson. It's got a reputation as a gothic/horror classic but I really didn't like it. I could see that it's clever and how it got its reputation but I just found it a bit of a slog. Currently reading Strange Weather in Tokyo by Hiromi Kawakami. Funny you should say that, that is exactly also one of my resolutions for 2018. OT: Last book I read was the new Harry Potter story. Wholeheartedly enjoyed it, I hope they turn it into a movie. Currently reading Knockemstiff by Donald Ray Pollock. Enjoying it so far, I especially like his gritty style. First time reading one of his books, I can already say that I will read more of his work.

Got two books the other day. First up which im about 1/3 the way into right now is 'Artemis'. Same author who wrote the Martian which I really enjoyed. Secondly, I also picked up 'Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep'. I saw this was the inspiration for Blade Runner 2049 (which I have yet to see) but since its only about 200 pages it seemed like a quick and easy read. "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep" is an interesting novel, and it reads well. However, it is very much different than the "Blade Runner" films that take inspiration from it. I am a couple chapters into this now and honestly I find it to be a pretty difficult read. I am not much of a reader which is exactly why I am trying to read more but I feel like a bit of an idiot reading this.

I just finished Ready Player One.
I didn't have extremely high hopes for this book going into it, I thought the premise sounded cheesy and wasn't sure what all the they hype could possibly be about. Boy oh boy how fucking wrong was I. This book isn't going to go down as a grand all time literary masterpiece, and that's okay because that's not what it's trying to do. What it's trying to do is deliver to you a fun, fast paced, awesome story, and it delivered on all three counts. The characters are flawed and relatable in a way that they exactly should be. And the story was actually engaging and compelling. I don't have a bad thing to say about this book.
5/5 would recommend to everyone unless they hate video games and copious amounts of references, also it's a quick read I finished it in under a week.

I enjoyed it too, except by the end I was getting a little tired of all the pop culture references, even though that's the entire book.

I've been re-reading all the Harry Potter books recently. But before that I was reading this book "The Things We Talk About When We Talk About Love," by Raymond Carver and I thought it was amazing. I love that each story has a different interpretation of love as an emotion and that not all of them were good and not all of them were bad.

Just finished Artemis by Andy Weir. I was excited about this since I loved The Martian, but am I glad I finally finished it. The last 50 pages were really hard to finish as I mentally checked out of the book right about then. 2.5/5. I was excited for this as well because of The Martian and got really stoked after reading the synopsis. Somewhat disappointed after finishing it. The science was cool but it all felt really rushed and I just couldn't invest myself in the main character. Would love to see a movie adaptation though.

I feel like this would make for a better film than book which is the complete opposite of the Martian which was a 10x better book than film.

I used my grandma's membership so I think it was a bit cheaper, but definitely worth it.

I keep meaning to check The Martian out because I absolutely loved the movie (until the last 20 minutes). Maybe I'll check it out on audiobook it's super short only like 11 hours or something like that.

Finished "The Lost Order" by Steve Berry, and now I'm sitting in the pleasurable position of only being a month and a half away from his next book. Moving on to "The Clockwork Dynasty" by Daniel Wilson.
