You guys, during these days of me teaching to an empty classroom due to the virus and frequently having days of little to sometimes even zero student participation (probably due to a vast number of home learning disadvantages many families face, kids are not always to blame), I sometimes feel a bit down being at work. While these days are incredibly simple, and I'm getting a full salary despite the simplicity, I feel it is all meaningless to me. I really like when the situation requires me to learn, grow, and work hard to earn my pay.
But despite lack of preferred work circumstances, I've had a great amount of fun popping onto TDM every hour and reading and posting with you guys. I do sometimes wish for more activity to fuel this place, but I really like our community, and days like these especially remind me how awesome it is to have it. Thanks guys!
Also, looks like I still have a job here next year. Apparently our school sold 1/3 of our building to another school so next year this building will have my school as main owners, as well as an international school based from Vermont, and a Bilingual School called Andante (dumbass name but whatever). Geeze, weird times. haha

Every day feels the same no matter what tasks I'm doing. I really don't enjoy video conference meetings either. I'm used to them now but they just feel awkward. But they're the closest I can come to social interaction at work. At the same time, I feel guilty complaining about my situation when I know many other people are much worse off. I've taken today off and it feels great not having to log on in the morning. Planning a day of vidya and movies.

I've gotta give mad respect to those who took the time to learn how to use programs like Protools, Reaper, Ableton, and all the other major DAWs out there for their bands and recording needs. Learning and using it is kinda like a third job for me, as it is an endless source of learning. I guess a lot of sound engineers, recording studio owners, and professional mixers went through a similar journey, and probably did a lot of self-learning like I'm doing to get to where they are in their music studio careers. But wow...you open up a program like this for the first time and it's just like "WTF do I do???" It's so intimidating at first. And you have to be determined or greatly interested in learning to advance and get good at it. I enjoy and hate that, because I kinda don't want another job after my job. hahaha! But I'm driven by the hope of working with bands who may or may not want to collaborate, so I'll keep pushing on.
Although I've gotten a bit of progress done on my Traveler cover, there's still much left, and I'm even thinking I better upgrade my microphone (using a super cheap ass mic) to a ribbon mic before I really commit to finishing this song. Which means, I'll just re-record everything in the end. Now is just a learning/trial and error period for me.

So I've got a nice, new ribbon microphone on the way from Germany. Once it arrives, I'm starting over on my Traveler song cover so I can ensure the better sound quality. But as I dig deeper into home DIY music production and stuff, I found a small problem with my original intention of doing violin covers of songs. I kinda hoped to do like a heavy metal violin covers album, and make a release for it digitally. But I think it's extremely risky, since if it turned out halfway decent and people started purchasing it for even a small fee, maybe record labels would be looking to sue me or something. From watching Spectre Sound Studios's channel on youtube, I learned that for a studio, it's risky to deal with cover bands for this reason. So I might need to adjust my focus a bit. I mean, it wouldn't be hard at all for me to create stuff like Simply Three (haven't heard of them? Check them out on youtube. I went to college with them and now they're fairly big), but I don't find poppy music as exciting for a string player project.
I'm thinking about making a solo violin album where I make metal-inspired songs (traditional heavy metal, since it would sound most natural on the instrument). But even I don't like instrumental albums. I'm wondering if vocalist from Traveler, since he likes what I'm doing and wants to sing over my cover, maybe he'd like to be a vocalist for an album I write and record. That'd be pretty damn sweet. Just thinking out loud. I know nobody would want to hear my lousy singing on the album. hahaha

My best friend took me to Chinese BBQ again and tonight they challenged me to try pig brains. Admittedly, I was somewhat not interested in trying it, but at the same time there is just something very empowering about being with the right people for certain circumstances. The funniest part was that when the brains arrived she revealed she wasn’t going to be eating any. So it was mostly for me. Lol!
I’m proud of myself for being brave enough to try it. I was an extremely picky eater as a kid. Look at me now. Brains! As for the taste, it had a dark, organ meat kind of taste, somewhat like pig lungs, but less dry and grainy textures than lungs. Instead, it’s quite soft and moist, and maybe comparable to a soft tofu in texture. It was interesting to say the least. But at the same time, it was not bad at all!

That scene looked incredibly inspired by the unbelievably sad and inhumane way some Chinese eat live monkey brains in Guangzhou and Hong Kong. The brains I ate were at least cooked and not within the head of the animal. It was cooked and prepared in a spicy sauce with cilantro and some other herbs and vegetables.

I'm pretty sure that's either Temple of Doom or Raiders of the Lost Ark. Definitely remember freaking out at that scene as a kid.
