I'll try not to get wordy, but Stringypoo is a wordy guy by nature. You should see the emails I write to my old professors when I update them with my new work ventures.
I've recently because extremely dissatisfied with who my daily life turns out. I have only a few hobbies, really just video games, with a small interest in keeping up with a simple TV show on Netflix when I can. Well, that, and of course keeping up with listening to my music downloads. Oh, and of course now the gym. But recently, I'm just not content because the growing feeling is that there just isn't enough time in a day to fully live out the life. Let me detail a weekday for you guys so you can see what I mean.
6:30am: Wake up (the hardest thing about being in China now is that my mother is alone in Arkansas. I call her daily now, mostly for her emotional health, as she is not actually very stable, and moving here was really hard on her)
8:30am-5pm: Work at the international school.
5:20pm: Arrive at my home-area's bus stop and try to figure out when/where/what to eat. If I cook, it takes me 45 minutes sometimes. If I eat out, it also requires a good walk or bus/taxi route, also eating up anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour and a half.
5:30 OR after dinner, so 6:30-ish: Gym. I tend to do this for anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour, three days a week based on my goal.
8pm: Arrive home, watch an episode of the Office (current show, I've been on it for a few months now due to one episode a night and how long the show ran)
8:30-9:30pm: Independent Chinese language study time while listening to a new metal album (my only time to guarantee keeping up with new music with quality sound assurance). My entire life is moving to China. My wife and I have purchased an apartment in Shanghai to live in for the future. It's not finished yet, but it will be finished in December. We will move in probably 6-12 months after it's finished. I want to become fluent as soon as possible in Chinese, and this is my best year in terms of workload and everything to put the work in.
9:30pm-10:30: Currently it is Nintendo Switch time. I'm currently replaying my favorite game of all time, Final Fantasy VIII, which I haven't played since probably ten years ago due to the lack of remasters for it on consoles until this year.
10:30pm: Repeat, and do all again.
This is my every work-day schedule. Weekends are shot, because Saturdays I return to Shanghai on Friday nights to stay with my wife and her family, most notably with my 3 month old son. With him especially, I find I get nothing accomplished on Saturdays because he requires so much care. Sundays are busy, because I teach violin lessons in the morning and early evening. Noon-time I will soon become the assistant conductor of a new Shanghai Youth Orchestra that will start within the coming month or two.
Okay, I've posted my current life routine and struggles. The struggle being that my days are extremely packed with things. I'm not necessarily unhappy with my overall life outlook. It's more a problem with the fact that I just don't feel there is enough time in my day to get genuine satisfaction out of it all. I find myself feeling tired and worked too hard. Maybe my self-expectations are too high this year. Maybe I just need to schedule my routines differently. Would anyone who is interested or maybe even great at structuring out life things like this care to make any suggestions? Or if others want to chime in with their similar feelings, please feel free to share.
