So I watched this music video from the band Ghost on Youku this morning (Youku is the Chinese equivalent of Youtube, if you didn’t know that), and I didn’t hate it at all. In fact, I quite enjoyed it. I’d never dug deep into Ghost before, as this band is one of those that people tend to enjoy shitting all over, but this was up my alley. It’s also from their 2015 album, so basically before the period in which people believe they truly sold out. But yeah, I might have to dig up this album for my listening pleasure. The music video really has a nice effect for the lyrics and style of the music. Check it out if you’re open minded about a heavy/doom era song by a big band.

It blows my mind that people actually pay money to listen to Sunn O))).

I don't know if I'd be that up for billy milano dive on my head. Already nearly had me head snapped off at a municipal waste show one time.

I've been listening to Tool's discography the last couple weeks in the car. The band got so so much better after -- in my opinion -- two really lackluster early albums in Opiate and Undertow, where they try really hard to just rip off Soundgarden but a weirder version of them. They improved dramatically by Aenima and just kept getting better. Fear Inoculum is still growing on me but so far i like it a lot.

I can def see where you’re coming from with “Opiate”, but I think “Undertow” stands solidly on its own two feet. “Ænima” is sublime though.

Listening to them years ago, I thought so too. But now comparing Undertow to the totality of their discography, there are just some really weak songs there that do not hold up well nearly 30(!) years later. Sure, like everybody i think "Prison Sex" is a solid track, but after that the album just devolves into derivative attempts at a young band still figuring out what they were. Then it culminates in the final couple tracks that just are absolutely skippable, including a painfully bad final "song" that's 15 minutes of nonsense.
Really, listen to early Soundgarden records from like 1989 and tell me that Tool wasn't just trying to sound like them for a while.
Still, a band making like four amazing albums -- maybe even five, i kinda like that live record Salival too -- after that, is pretty damn good.

You know, I think I’ve only... yeah, I’ve only heard “Superunknown” and Soundgarden’s latest. I’ll dive through their discography when I have a moment, thanks for the suggestion!

Between the Buried and Me are a band that I wrongfully began to ignore after Colors. I hated Colors and hated myself for buying it back in the day. After that and hearing some of the follow up material, I stopped paying attention to them. I was wrong and I’m sorry. Listening to the remaster of The Great Misdirect recently got me interested in the band again. So I recently listened to that, Silent Circus, Alaska, and Colors again, as all of those were on my external hard drive for retrieval. Wow, the band aged well for me. My feelings on Colors and later material have changed a lot! I love Colors, albeit not as much as I am enjoying The Great Misdirect.
The one thing that so far has not changed for me is that Alaska is still my favorite album of theirs. Holy shit is Alaska awesome.

I remember the first time I heard Alaska (the song, not the full album) and I was totally blown away by it. For me BTBAM is a bit of a hit and miss when it comes to vocals, but I love their instrumental quite a lot.
