At least 22 people have been killed and 120 injured after a suspected terrorist attack at the Manchester Arena.
Thousands of gig-goers were packed into the venue to see American singer Ariana Grande when the explosion shook the arena.
Multiple witnesses reported hearing "huge bangs" at the venue shortly after US singer's gig finished at around 10.30pm on Monday evening.
The area around the arena was swamped with police and emergency services and approach roads were cordoned off.
Minutes later eyewitnesses described seeing people "running and screaming" from the arena, with some covered in blood.
Greater Manchester Police say that children are among the dead.
59 people were taken for treatment at eight hospitals across Greater Manchester. A further 60 were treated as 'walking wounded'.
Chief Constable Ian Hopkins said it was believed that the attacker - who died at the scene - was carrying an improvised explosive device.
Swarms of armed police were joined by a bomb disposal unit as teams from across the region worked to secure the area and help the injured.
A device packed with nuts and bolts was used to inflict maximum injury in the Manchester Arena bomb attack.
The M.E.N. understands from several sources that many of the casualties who survived were left with metal fragments and full bolts embedded in their limbs.
One source said: “When casualties arrived at Oldham Royal Hospital [they] all needed to go to theatre, one patient had a leg which was peppered with metal.”
Salman Abedi, the 22-year-old named as the suicide bomber behind Monday’s terror attack on Manchester Arena, was born in the city and is believed to be of Libyan descent.
Abedi was registered as living at Elsmore Road in the city as recently as last year - where police raided a downstairs red-bricked semi-detached property on Tuesday as they hunted those thought to be behind the blast.
Neighbours recalled an abrasive, tall, skinny young man who was little known in the neighbourhood, and often seen in traditional Islamic clothing.
It was unclear whether he lived alone at the address, where a flag - possibly Palestinian - was occasionally seen flying from an upstairs window.
