A few of my friends got into Bitcoin early and made a shit ton of money. I wish I did it at the same time as them, I'm not sure if it's even worth it at this point.

The only time I ever heard of anyone actually using Bitcoin in real life was the weird guy at my work talking about acquiring questionable things on the dark web.

The only time I ever heard of anyone actually using Bitcoin in real life was the weird guy at my work talking about acquiring questionable things on the dark web. Yes this is true. I know some people that buy illegal things using bitcoin. Although as time goes by many more countries legalize bitcoin as currency that work like credit cards(bitcoin wallet as the are called). For anyone who's interested in mining bitcoin its too late. (Things get harder to mine the longer it goes.[By this i mean harder to produce money out of it which ofc making it less profitable.]) Otherwise if you're still want to, try Ethereum since its rather new but might cost you some money since every decent graphics card used to mine skyrocketed in price(before those cards cost from 200-250$ now its 350$ and up.)

I use to have some altcoins. Some purchased, some mined. I ended up deleting them since they were – and still would be – worth practically nothing. Never owned any bitcoin which was a big mistake. If one is to invest in bitcoin alternatives, better make sure the technology is sound in what it wishes to accomplish.

a friend of mine was telling me a story about someone they new who makes bitcoins for a living. i have no idea what the process to make one really is but from what i was told in the story that it's super complicated just to make 1 bitcoin. apparently it's called mining?

Whatever you do with any cryptocurrency, make sure you do your research. Lots of good ideas and technology out there, but on the flip-side there are lots of people trying to make a quick buck out of people who don't do their research.

The recent mining boom has had a really interesting (and somewhat annoying) effect on the price of GPUs right now.
High demand and low supply. Miners have purchased a lot of the mid tier Radeon and GTX cards so there isn't much availability for the gamers looking to upgrade their graphics cards right now, go look at how ridiculous the prices/availability are for GTX 1070s on Amazon and Newegg at the moment.
I'm hoping the hype will die out and I have a feeling there will be a crash similar to the one back in 2013, but we shall see.

I recently just put a little bit of money into Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Litecoin. figure I might as well jump in now and enjoy the ride. I also ordered one of the Visa's that turn your Bitcoins into every day money which I thought was pretty cool.
