Brilliant. So good to see De Niro, Pacino and Pesci together. Not sure it quite justifies the 3.5 hour run time, but it's on par with Scorsese's other mob works (Goodfellas, Casino). 4.5/5 How the hell are you seeing this so far in advance of it's Netflix release? My local independent cinema had a preview screening. I wasn't sure if this was getting a cinema run so figured I'd see it on the big screen while I could. They've got a preview of The Lighthouse in a couple of weeks too which I'm really excited for.

NEXT BATCH:
Midsommar: Fuck. Not as good as Hereditary, but a very pretty film that made me feel uneasy as hell the entire time, despite not much being explicit until the end. It does drag a bit in the middle, though. 4/5 Drag Me to Hell: Pretty enjoyable despite not being as campy as I was expecting from Raimi. Twist at the very end actually surprised me. 3.5/5 Critters: I liked what I saw of this even though I'm pretty sure I fell asleep at some point (sorry). 3/5 Pitch Black: My only previous exposure to this universe was Chronicles of Riddick when it released, which I did not like, but maybe I should revisit. I liked Pitch Black quite a bit, though. My only complaint was that the color grading to go along with the two suns was too aggressive and kind of annoying sometimes. 4/5 The Greasy Strangler: By far one of the dumbest movies I've ever seen, but it had me laughing like an idiot at multiple points. Imagine if the guy who made Napoleon Dynamite made an R-rated black comedy/horror while cracked off of his fucking ass and you get The Greasy Strangler. 3/5 The Blair Witch Project: I realize that it's part of the filmmaking technique, but I often found it difficult to discern what was happening. Still, made me pretty uneasy throughout and the ending was super creepy. Would have loved to experience this when it came out in '99 and they were marketing it as real. 3/5

Amazing. I read that Odeon has 100 or so cinemas around the UK live streaming the screening from the London Film Festival, so maybe it was part of that? I'd much rather see a 3 1/2 hour movie at the cinema. I'll end up getting massively distracted at home watching it on Netflix.

They had a satellite link with Edith Bowman doing some red carpet interviews before the screening. It was an absolute trainwreck and had the whole audience laughing.

Enjoyable but the direction and storytelling is pretty uninspired. 3.5/5

Really excellent doc about Muslim surveillance in Chicagoland from the 90s to today, and the pervasive data collection and monitoring that was on-going despite no evidence or charges. Superbly made by a first-time filmmaker. Link to watch in my review if you wish: letterboxd.com/v9733xa/film/the-feeling-of-being-watched/

Shit. 2/5 The story is rubbish and the acting is worse but the fight scenes are pretty cool. 2.5/5 Sion Sono's The Forest of Love, which dropped on Netflix last week. If you've seen his other films you know what you're in for. Not for the faint of heart. 4/5

I just watched and really enjoyed El Camino on Netflix, it was really well done and didn't feel like a money grab.
I hadn't seen Breaking Bad in years and didn't feel lost at all, a full rewatch is definitely not necessary to enjoy this, but if you haven't seen Breaking Bad you'd be very confused.
