Two really exceptional films from Soviet virtuoso Mikhail Kalatozov and cinematographer Sergei Urusevsky. While the first is pure socialist propaganda, it's also full of technical wizardry that's rarely equaled. The latter is a harrowing adventure film in the vein of The Revenant but with some spectacular real-life effects. Going to watch The Cranes Are Flying tonight to complete the trio. letterboxd.com/v9733xa/film/i-am-cuba/letterboxd.com/v9733xa/film/letter-never-sent/

Continuing my rewatch with another fan edit from the same dude. This cut streamlines the plot more and tries to make Anakin and Padme's relationship make more sense. He's also taken the bold decision to remove the divisive Yoda lightsaber battle. Still the weakest film in the franchise for me and I give it an undeserved 3.5/5
Follows the biopic template. Sean Penn's performance was the only thing that really stood out for me. 3.5/5
Went to a 20 year anniversary screening of this. One of Kubrick's best works. I'd forgotten that it was a Christmas movie. 4.5/5

A lot of fun, and nice to see Eddie Murphy in an actual decent movie that fits his style again. Seemed to me like a more earnest version of The Disaster Artist. 3.5/5 So I liked this even though I don't really think it has a "message" nor is it as big/important thematically as it tries to be. It also wears its influences on its sleeve super obviously, but I appreciate a movie in the comic book realm that's more thoughtful than the standard MCU fare. 4/5

Such a fun movie but it isn't hard to figure out the plot when one thing got revealed very early in the movie.

There's a lot wrong with it but it's the best of the prequels. 3.5/5
An early work of Isao Takahata of Studio Ghibli fame. Watched it as more of an animated film history lesson than for entertainment. 3/5
Expected to enjoy this more. Beautifully shot but I didn't really engage with the plot. 3.5/5
A documentary about the England cricket team which rose from ignominy to become the #1 ranked side in the world. A really open look at mental health in sport but probably requires some appreciation/understanding of cricket to fully enjoy it. 4/5
I finally made it to the good ones. 4.5/5
