This was a little better than i expected. I originally heard the reviews last year weren't favorable, and of course it didn't really get any major award nominations which is unusual for an Eastwood film (who, despite his ignorant political and social views, remains one of the greatest living directors in this country). But i liked it. It's shorter than i anticipated (only an hour and a half) but does a good job, in an interesting non-linear story, of covering the incident without just being another disaster-drama that Mark Wahlberg stars in like twice a year. Anyway, give it a shot. And you can watch it with Mom today and she'll like it too.

Get Out.
So much hype and a 99% rating on Rotton Tomatoes. I must be missing something because I thought it was average at best. Maybe the trailer gave too much away, I don't know.

Cultural difference, maybe? I don't know what the equivalent of the "smug liberal" is in the UK, but it resonated with me because people like my parents fit that stereotype.

One of the least Hitchcockian films i think Hitchcock ever directed (at least in his last 25 or so years of his career, which literally lasted over 50 years). But it's good! It still being Mom's Day, i watched this with her and it's a great choice. Just enough suspense and thrill to keep me interested, just enough pomp and Frenchy gallantry that she liked it too. It felt to me like a lighter version of North by Northwest, which is undoubtedly the most "fun" Hitchcock film. Stay tuned not just for the twist/reveal ending, but the great joke line literally at the end of the movie that was beautifully fitting and ironic on Mother's Day.

I think it's so well liked as its politically relevant, and some of the twists in it are pretty f*cked up. I enjoyed it as it's a little batshit crazy and offers something different from most of your typical horrors that get released nowadays (Mostly just sequels to paranormal films)

Chris Noonan directed this, probably best known for directing the stellar Babe (the two Oscar nominations should convince you to watch that film, which is unfairly labeled a children's movie but is in fact one of the best movies of the 1990s IMO). So, if you've seen Babe then you have an idea what to expect from Miss Potter, released in 2006. A poignant and fulfilling story, complete in 90 minutes, about the best selling children's series in history. Renee Zellweger, who has a combined NINE Golden Globe and Oscar nominations (really! she's talented!), is once again excellent. As is Ewan MacGregor, in a smaller but pointed role.

finally checked out The Nice Guys last night. Really solid action-comedy Great GREAT film. Absolutely one of the best of 2016, and completely overlooked. Deserved fair more praise and attention.
