"There were too many rules in hardcore." Even in the 90s there were a lot of different styles of Hardcore and enough bands that didn't follow "the rules". lol
And what's up with all this "we're better than them, we can play anything" blabla... what a bunch of dickheads.

Most fucking hardcore bands want to be metal "bands anyway but they just can't play well enough.” I actually got mad when I read this haha

Pretty douchy stuff to stay, but Sounding The Seventh Trumpet, Waking The Fallen, City of Evil and Self Titled will always have a soft spot in my heart.

I thought that had been the case for a long time. Like after the dude ruined his voice and they started playing butt rock or whatever their post-Waking the Fallen stuff can be considered.

I guess we all can agree on A7X being a bunch of biiiiig douchebags so lets focus on Metal Hammer and their awfully written and dick-riding "journalism":
"He breezes answers with endless enthusiasm for his own band and any minus point put to him is met with a ‘fuck you!’ attitude the likes of which hasn’t been seen for far too long. When you spend enough time with enough people inside the music industry, you can’t help but be able to tell the difference between when someone is telling you what they honestly believe and when they are just dribbling mindless spiel. Matt Shadows is above and beyond all of that. Matt Shadows is the real deal."
I mean....are you serious? This whole article is just fucking ridiculous.

I wouldn't disagree with them at all actually. My band is much more complex and chaotic than any other band in our local area and we definitely don't "fit in" with the hardcore scene. It's hilarious because most of us have been going to hardcore shows much, much longer than anyone else in the local band scene in our area. We have intricate guitar parts, crazy drum fills and strange time-signatures so the hardcore scene pegs us as "too metal."
We for sure don't fit in in the death metal scene because we have "breakdowns" occasionally. We don't fit in with the metalcore or deathcore scenes because we were never scene kids.
The hardcore scene is my home. It's what I know and it's all I want to know. When your band is overlooked by the hype machine that is the hardcore scene however, it leaves a horrible taste in your mouth. We see shitty band after shitty band composed of 5 18 year old kids who just listened to whatever band is popular at the current moment and they try to recreate the same mediocre music and its a cycle.
Unless you are a scene celebrity your band gets no recognition. It may be different over seas but here in the US, trendy bullshit gets chewed up and spit out at you and before you know it ever kid looks the same, listens to the same bands, dances the same, has rhe same haircut, shoes, tattoos you fucking name it.
God forbid someone do something new and truly unique.
Everything after Waking The Fallen is weak if you ask me. but I get what M. Shadows is saying. This era of A7X is so much better than most Orange County hardcore bands in their era. Sometimes the social structures of the hardcore scene here in the US, California specifically are pretty fucking off putting.
Oh, and it's true, most of the hardcore scene wishes they were more metral, or that their band could be metal. But they aren't willing to start playing past the fourth fret and to stop wearing khaki shorts.
posers.

I think you're looking at it the wrong way here my dude - no disrespect intended when I say this, but your post reads as incredibly elitist. It's been my experience in my local scene that the bands who strut around as if they're the only rooster in the hen-house get overlooked not because of their talent or image but because they're insufferable egotists who think their scene owes them something (it doesn't.) I don't think anyone wins when you view your other local bands as competition - be a cheerleader for your fellow musicians and celebrate their success, they'll be happy for you when yours comes too. I think it's important to remember that the kids of the scene are your foundation - sure some people are there to socialize, some are there to let off steam, some are there to connect with a part of their scene that enriches them, but in the end everyone is there for the music; and if your music is good people will recognize that and support you - but not if you spit on them for not doing it sooner. Just my 2¢ though - best of luck to you and your band my man. Send me some songs if you've got em recorded, I'd love to have a listen.

Just my 2¢ though - best of luck to you and your band my man. Send me some songs if you've got em recorded, I'd love to have a listen. While I absolutely meant 100% of what I originally said, I feel the need to elaborate to clear some things up. No disrespect taken at all. I love hardcore. I have been going to shows for about half of my life. Primarily hardcore shows. The reason I love hardcore isn't because I think it's necessarily the "best" type of music out there though, because it just isn't. Hardcore is special because it gives everyone involved in the scene a place to call home, a place where they belong like nowhere else. The shows are intimate and the energy is next to none, it's hard to find a person who has ever forgotten their first show. With that said, the musicianship in most hardcore bands is pretty mediocre. But every so often bands will somehow break through to the general hardcore community that are truly impressive musicians. Take Converge for example. Read old interviews with them and they talk about how they felt so out of place and how they didn't fit in with any other bands, how people didn't know what to do when they watched them. So, when i read this avenged sevenfold article, (Did you read it or just reply to my comment?) I see the same sort of message being said. The message is, Hey we are sorta these dudes who always associated with the hardcore scene but like different styles of music as well, came from maybe a more metal background, We wrote some really good music and the scene we have grown from and put blood sweat and tears into has turned their back on us because we're "outcasts" in a place that is supposed to be accepting of everyone. So they feel sorta like "fuck em." (I probably should't have used my band as an example in the first place honestly.) Hardcore in the past 7 or so years has become utterly trendy and a hype driven subculture. The easy access to the latest trends with the internet and social media have just magnified the hype machine. Bro, think about how many hardcore bands are in the US alone. Think about it. Now tell me why almost every new band that comes out with some national recognition has some member of some previous big-time band. It's a fucking joke dude. It's business man, it's about record and merch sales and the Labels run that shit. t's not just some coincidence that every kid likes the same 10 records each and every fucking year.
I still love hardcore, I drive all around my area to local shows, support my friends bands etc etc. I don't think there's a competition, I do KNOW how cliquey the scene is though but even so it's not about that man, it's more of a big picture thing.
