Perhaps it is my love of retro gaming and the recent classic editions and what have you, but it really does bring me the feels when I think about those old games I used to play a lot.
What was the first game that turned you into a gamer?
Although I started with an Atari and a NES, it was truly Super Street Fighter II for the SNES (which I obtained less than a year after starting games when I was a little kid) which pulled me in. People swear by the Turbo edition, which I also got later, but nothing felt quite like the first entry on the SNES for me. It was a super well-balanced fighting game, maybe the most balanced fighting game for the whole SNES library, as I fell in love with the genre and picked up every fighter I could find, only to find Super Street Fighter II was perfect.
Other than that, of course there were games like the Mario Bros series and Super Mario World, Super Mario Kart, and many more.
I guess I started out as a Nintendo kid. I’ve since become a Sony fan, but for me, the SNES was the best console and it has an incredible library to back it up!

I think for me it was one of the original Disney games like Lion King or Aladdin.

For me, my siblings and I grew up with an Intellivision set, and after one of several moves we lost the console, so whenever I had a chance to play video games it was always at friends places, but I truly didn’t get into gaming like I am today until I bought my first console, a Nintendo 3DS, when I was 18-ish. First game I bought for it was Super Street Fighter IV, but the game that sold me into the lifestyle was the remaster of Ocarina Of Time; I’ve played it at least 3-4 times, each time trying to 100% it, but enjoying every friggin’ second of it.

I started with the Game Boy, had games such as Super Mario Land, Mario Golf, and Tetris. Those games were so addicting.
My first console game was Ocarina of Time for N64, and the rest was history.

I was unlucky to have been a Sega kid growing up. The games that always stuck out in my mind most from my childhood were Sonic the Hedgehog, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Hyperstone Heist, The Lion King, and Disney's Aladdin. But gaming quickly became a very distant hobby for me all the way up until high school. The only game series that stuck out for me up until high school was Pokemon Red & Blue, but I didn't even beat Silver & Gold so it quickly burned out for me. Fallout 3 was the game that really got me back into playing games religiously. Otherwise I always just bought the most recent Tony Hawk, WWE game, and the occasional Madden (and I didn't even really like football). Fallout 3 was my first real dive into an RPG game and I remember just being blown away with the game. The only reason I even checked it out is because the person working at my local Blockbuster at that time was raving about it and trying to get me to pre-order it. That game turned me from a casual gamer to a hardcore gamer. Things haven't been the same ever since, which is why I have such a soft spot for the Fallout franchise and for that game in particular.

It’s funny, I didn’t get a Sega Genesis until long after I had already gotten a Sega Dreamcast. I loved the Dreamcast. The Genesis was hit and miss for me, but I had bought a Sega Nomad (basically a portable Sega Genesis model almost the size of a Switch but thicker which plays Genesis cartridges) and I loved carrying my Genesis games around, playing Eternal Champions, Streets of Rage 2, Sonic 2, and a few more. While I would say that its gaming library doesn’t come close to the SNES library, the Genesis was still a great console back in the day. But oh yeah, holy shit was Fallout 3 good! I almost failed to get into it initially when I wandered off into a quest that was way too hard and decided that I didn’t like it, but thankfully I gave it another go that week and I fell in love. I totally get your feelings regarding the Fallout games. I even bought the first two games for my laptop due to how much I enjoyed 3. I didn’t enjoy the first one very much, and never got around to playing the second one. The first one was annoying because of a settlement of foes which had children who alerted their parents upon seeing my arrival and who would all shoot me down quickly. After dying multiple times, I decided to kill the children first so that they wouldn’t alert the parents. BIG MISTAKE!!! I was followed all over the map and killed over and over by mercenaries out to kill me for killing children and it made the game unplayable. Hahaha, glad I got into the Fallout series from 3 and not from the first one.

NES man, I think we got ours in like 90 or 91 and I played the fuck out of that, and the original Mario was my main jam. I remember playing a lot of Kirby, Battletoads, TMNT, and Mega Man as well.

I didn't take a normal path through gaming for someone my age. For some reason, probably financial, my parents were pretty behind with the gaming systems we had in the house. This is the first game I remember playing, called Horace & The Spiders, on the Sinclair ZX Spectrum: It was on a cassette and took a ridiculously long time to load. I still remember getting really excited to play it, and it did capture my imagination despite its simplicity. Feeling like I want to go on a retro gaming nostalgia trip now.

Yup, my parents were of a similar mindset. More often than not, my siblings and I played outside instead of sitting in front of a screen.

I got a PlayStation 2 in 2007, 7 years after it came out, so I think I belong in that club too haha. My parents gave me everything else though, and I had a decent enough PC to play most games at least.

i played loads of games before i actually got pulled into it fully. There was 3 that really just really opened my eyes. There was the game i was just ridiculously good at which was: There were games that opened my eyes to online gaming and making friends: Then there was the game that tied it all together for me: I was about 11/12, i was great at it, made loads of friends all around the world and i was super hooked. Since then ive done N64 ,SNES ,Gamecube , Xbox, Xbox 360, PC, Nintendo DS, Emulators, Arcades, Mobile all of it. I love games, sad i don't have enough time to dedicate myself anymore.
