Infernal Affairs / The Departed 13 Tzameti / 13 Martyrs / Martyrs Anything for Her / The Next Three Days Nikita / Point of No Return L'Appartement / Wicker Park Das Experiment / The Experiment Funny Games / Funny Games Reykjavík-Rotterdam / Contraband Yojimbo / A Fistful of Dollars Ghost in the Shell / Ghost in the Shell Ju-on: The Grudge / The Grudge A Tale of Two Sisters / The Uninvited REC / Quarantine El secreto de sus ojos / The Secrets in Their Eyes The Silent House / Silent House Abre los ojos / Vanilla Sky We Are What We Are / We Are What We Are Män som hatar kvinnor / The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo

I didn't see the original. I watched the new one and it was... not good.

I didn't see the original. I watched the new one and it was... not good. The original and remake are VASTLY unalike. Suspiria (2019) was a great film in my opinion. Really fleshed out the characters and the choreography of the actual dance studio. However, you have to set a day for it because man, what a long film.

In fact, I'd go so far to say that i love long films. ( Shoah anyone?) This was just confounding and ridiculous, and an excuse for a sickening bloodbath that did not satisfy.

Dragged Across Concrete was sick, Burning was immense, and the likes of Wolf of Wall Street, Django Unchained, the Hateful Eight, Dark Knight Rises, Interstellar, Green Mile, Saving Private Ryan, Scarface, Forrest Gump, Boyhood, Goodfellas, Schindler's List, The Departed, Gangs of New York, Heat, Avatar, and Watchmen are all time well spent for sure. On the other hand, you get stuff like Pirates of The Caribbean: At World's End, Cloud Atlas, and Transformers: Age of Extinction that shit all over that theory.

You know what would be cool? If we did a double review, but for remakes. Watch the original, and then the remake. Point out big changes, things we didn't like, things we're happy they kept. Compare budgets, see if more money made it bettee/worse. That kinda stuff. What does everyone else think? Clearly the stuff is very narrowed down, because a lot of franchises try and reboot, not remake. But I can definitely think of a few that would work for this. Thoughts? Opinions? i would def nominate Funny Games or Insomnia for this!

I'd say the length of film and how good it is are totally unrelated. It's just that bad long films waste even more of your time.

I think there's value in telling a story over a longer run-time if it allows the script to breathe a little, or you want to demonstrate character development over a prolonged period (A Prophet is a great example of this). This is generally why I watch more TV than movies now.

The deadline for film #2 is fast approaching and we never really sorted out whether we needed a poll or not to take this forward. Everyone happy for tao to take the next pick on Monday?

So, will we continue with the “new film” rule, or will we allow for an older choice that some of us may have seen before?

We all watch a lot of goddamn movies; i don't think anyone is going to pick something that some of us haven't seen (at least until i choose some documentary that has like 59 watches on LB).
