So, will we continue with the “new film” rule, or will we allow for an older choice that some of us may have seen before? I think it'd be chaos trying to find a 'new film' so go with something you either want to see again or something you haven't seen and want to see, regardless of whether everyone else in the club has or hasn't seen

I would like to continue this thread the previous film started and nominate “Audition” by Takashi Miike. That looks scary. It is very minimalistic, I promise. It’s got one “kinda” jump scare, and if you watched the trailer on LB, you already saw it.

This website is your friend (jump scare spoilers, but not plot spoilers): wheresthejump.com/jump-scares-in-audition-1999/Even gives you the timestamp so you skip it if you wish.

Just an idea for people who want to do some bonus viewing - how about some more Takashi Miike films? Blade of the Immortal, Hara-Kiri and The Bird People in China are all on my watchlist.

Blade of the Immortal and his remake of Hara Kiri I would definitely recommend; you could also check out his efforts with “Zebraman”, “13 Assassins” and “The Great Yokai War”; if anything, this sampling should demonstrate that while he’s known best for “Audition” and “Ichi The Killer” (great film), he’s a very prolific auteur and equally comfortable in a variety of genres. [Edit]: forgot to add “Sukiyaki Western Django”; now that I think about it, it seems to me his most interesting films are actually when he’s subverting a particular genre, like “Audition”, “Ichi”, “Zebraman” et al.

This article is literally called "Audition is Still Disturbing After 20 Years" - nerdist.com/article/audition-still-disturbing-after-20-years/Sorry, i'm not watching this film.

Miike is a director known for excesses, and certainly parts of Audition show us this, but it’s a much more nuanced and restrained movie than it could have been. He’s gone on to direct some of the most depraved and graphic films of all time (hello, Ichi the Killer), and yet Audition’s power comes in the characters and feeling the tension of the inevitable explosion and not the gruesome moments themselves.
I'm in agreeance with stuartoxlade; this is primarily why I thought it would have been alright. If people want to continue with "Audition", that's cool. v9733xa, if you'll give me a couple more days, I'll come up with a selection for you.

Gotta find and watch The Happiness of the Katakuris as well.

Let me rephrase the above post: if anyone else feels trepidatious about Audition, I'll scrap the pick and come up with another choice; if this is the case, please let me know as soon as you can. Thanks!!!
