This thread may just be mostly for me in the end, but my unique twist to this metal thread is that I don’t quite love doom metal. I bet many of you don’t either. However, there are some amazing offerings in doom, so I am going to update this thread from time to time with cool doom metal finds, and I also have a few to share. You guys are also all welcome to share of course.
Black Sabbath: obvious first post for a doom metal thread. It is debatable if BS are the first metal band or not. Many say they are. And if they are, they were simultaneously the first doom metal band. Their self-titled track from their self-titled debut album is a bona-fide doom metal classic. Just don’t watch the dreadfully stupid music video for it. Ozzy Osborne was really quite brilliant in his delivery. Despite its age, this is still a very respectable and effective recording. I love the ending section where it speeds up.

Crypt Sermon: This is an album I’ve been listening to on YouTube off and on for a while now. Really this is largely the reason I wanted to do a Doom metal discovery thread. This band has got the formula perfected in my opinion. No song feels too slow or uneventful. There are two great guitar solos in this song. The guitar work is layered wonderfully. The vocalist is powerful, sings in tune, and has a great voice overall. The drums are a point I’d take a crack at, however, as it doesn’t even sound like their drummer is with them at times on this recording. Maybe they better switch out drummers if they haven’t yet. Despite the drumming issues, this is a fantastic album.

Candlemass: This is one of the biggest names in Doom Metal. They just released a new album last month, despite their previous album likely having been their final one. They are unique in that they are one of those bands that have never released a bad album. If someone wanted to get into doom metal, this is truly the best start for anyone, although not necessarily this album. Perhaps an even better start is with their first album. But for my purpose, I’m sharing a favorite track from the new album to support them and their new effort.

I was gonna go see Yob on wednesday but I decided not to cause Wilder is gonna be here this weekend and I figured I should save the money. When I told him I was missing Yob he just said "that's cool we can stand around and be bored for an hour when I get there."

the best current doom band I hadn’t heard this band before. Not really my favorite type of doom band, being that kinda fuzzy Sabbath influenced old school doom style, but this band has got it going on. Thanks for sharing.

Listened to this today, and it was actually pretty good. Nice post, Tao! This is the kind of doom that I can get behind for sure. I listened to a good half of this just now during my last period at work. I love the riffs, tone, and the vocalist. Gonna have to track this album down now.

They call themselves "street doom" lol. I've been so bored of doom lately so it takes a lot to get me interested, and RIP are full of sick riffs and I fuckin love their tone.

Troll: I almost didn’t check this out because its cover art and description weren’t very captivating for me. Glad I went ahead and listened. There are some fantastic guitar lines in here, and vocals are mostly quite nice, although not overwhelmingly awesome. Matt Pike of High On Fire and Sleep fame probably wishes he wrote some of these guitar parts for real. Haha, maybe he did, that dude is a riff-lord afterall. Gotta be a little bit patient for this band’s music to take full effect, but damn does it do the job well! A nice doom release for 2019.

Pallbearer: Really cool to see bands from my hometown area (Central Arkansas) succeeding well in their efforts. Seems that with Rwake, Pallbearer, and Deadbird, we've got a booming doom scene in the state. Pallbearer are probably my favorite, but all three are solid. Pallbearer are from Little Rock. Their sound is just massive at times, huge and beautiful guitar and bass tones. The vocals are solid, the writing is great. Songs tend to finish a little bit jam-style, which I like. Gotta be patient for this music, but Pallbearer make it worth waiting.

I didn’t expect to go full doom-metal mood recently, but it seems to have happened. I guess I needed a slow break from all that fast thrash and death metal. Haha
But seriously though, I posted a track from Troll’s 2019 album earlier in this thread, but I want to give it another shoutout because it is seriously overlooked. Only 9 views on this video as I found it to post? This is nuts. The band is excellent! Five songs on the album, all five are unique, diverse, and worthy of multiple rewarding replays. It’s an early call, but I expect this to be high atop my top 10 list of 2019.
