You guys don’t have random thoughts to put into the thread? I feel I’m just blabbering about my appendicitis experience. Haha
But anyway, so this is day 3. Kinda lost track of the days. I can walk on my own, but I certainly look like a weak old man doing so. In general, I can only move very slowly. I have three bandages covering three holes from the minimally invasive surgery. Apparently recovery is quicker with this way, but it still sucks. And I finally got permission to eat today. Strangely for dinner, I got a light offering of meat, and my head got really hot and dizzy feeling. When I stopped eating it and focused on the porridge rice on the side, it became better. I guess it’s too early to eat the meat.
Great stuff also happened out of this: I’ve watched a ton of football games. Mostly Chiefs games from this season. I also watched some older seasons which allowed me to see where some players game from in previous teams/seasons, which was really fun. Who know Cole Beasley of the Bills offense previously was a wide receiver for the Cowboys? Not necessarily a useful fact, but it’s fun to compare his 2016 performance to his current performance. Dude is so clutch.
Also, I listened to a lot of music. Lots of Between the Buried and Me, Pagan Altar, Troll, Pallbearer, and Dance Gavin Dance. Also saw many fun music videos on Xiami. But holy shit are my eyes tired from this much phone time!

My grandfather's hearing is awful, lot a like of the elderly (he's 91), but as his hearing aids failed and he didn't want to shell out thousands for new ones, it seemed to coincide with something of a mental decline as well. He was distant, unfocused in conversations, and more easily confused. Surely some of that is age-related cognitive decline, but it seemed moreso in the last couple years.
Well, he found some great deal for new hearing aids the other week, and according to my mom (my parents and grandparents all live in Myrtle Beach now, if you recall), he's like a new person with these things, super engaged and pleasant and revitalized. And my grandmother doesn't have to scream at him and turn the TV volume past 11, probably most importantly for her.
In short, tell your parents and grandparents to get hearing aids! It's like that kid in 5th grade who we all assumed was lazy and never answered any questions in class; it was because he couldn't freaking see the blackboard. If you can hear clearly, your world opens up.

Just read an article about this and all I could think when I saw the picture was, "what the fuck is 'sammonella'...?"

I’m finally getting out of the hospital tomorrow! I unlocked a couple of achievements: Get appendicitis. And remove appendix.
Hospital staff here were great. They gave me a private room instead of the initial room I entered with other patients. The nurses were fun, maybe because they think a hairy westerner is fun. One of the worst pains I suffered? All the tape they had to rip off my hairy-ass body! Shit! They shaved my abdomen at surgery time so the tape that covered bandages there wasn’t as bad, but the arms were another story, and there were plenty of needles. One nurse who got to pull off a lot of arm tape before injecting my other arm went to get a razor to shave the other arm where the tape would go. That was nice of her. So I’ve got awkward bare spots on my skin now. Lol
It’s still hard to get up from lying down position. I have to pull myself up using the railing on the bedside, but it has gotten easier, and who knows? Maybe tomorrow when I wake up, I won’t need the railing.
Anyway, glad this stage of my life is coming to a close. I don’t recommend appendicitis.

If you shuffle around the letters of Coronavirus you get "Corvus On Air"
I fly to Vegas for a broadcast gig in April, and will thus be on air in two senses of the word. Omen? Coincidence? Conspiracy? The world may never know.

Like other International Schools, ours is beginning online coursework for our students tomorrow, as a way to make up for an extended break caused by the Coronavirus. I have such mixed feelings about this. I especially don’t like that this now creates a scenario in which I am now in 18 Wechat groups with all of my students’ parents a simple Wechat message away from chewing up all my time for the next few weeks. On the other hand, if they are cool with my assignments and leave me alone, it’s pretty stress free work. I guess we’ll see how it goes. I sure as hell miss China. I mean, I’m in it, but wow, it’s not the same being in Shanghai as it was. It’s an amazing city that feels greatly shutdown. I’m craving all the street foods but even if I go out for them, it probably won’t be there for me.

So we are doing online classwork for our school since the government isn’t ready to allow schools to officially open again yet. Apparently many schools are doing it to prevent too many days of non education activity.
It has been kinda fun in a way. I assigned my 3rd grade music classes a simple research project, where they choose any instrument and write two paragraphs. One is just simply why they chose this instrument and what they like or dislike about it. The second paragraph is what they have learned about the chosen instrument from their research. It’s very clear which students hate this kind of activity. Lol! But most of them really enjoyed it. I got a good laugh out of a student who wrote about the violin because he wrote that many great composers wrote great pieces for the violin like “Ode to Joy.” I mean, I’m the music expert with regards to classical music and all, but I simply had to tell him it was not a violin piece, but instead part of the 9th Symphony of Beethoven. I really like working with 3rd graders. They say hilarious stuff sometimes.
