As an American, I'm personally disgusted by this guy. Chain migration is good enough to bring his wife's whole family over but not for refugees. Screwing over union workers and not paying them is ok in his book. He's filed for bankruptcy more than I even thought was possible. His family has a well documented racist past dating back to the early 1900s. He's honestly just scum. The even more saddening thing is that for him to have been elected there had to of been enough stupid people to gobble up the shovel fulls of bullshit he was slinging. It only continues to get worse and worse. So use this to become more politically aware, and educate your friends and family so that when election time comes around more people can make smarter decisions at the polls. Not trying to sound sarcastic or conceited, just trying to be helpful. Oh I do for sure, was just taking a moment to vent on here.

I'm not going to be some political savant here, but voting even in primaries is a good place to start (I eat my own words since I missed the MD primaries this year though )

And he hasn't implemented any of his key pledges yet and has been irresolute when addressing his commitment to them (wall etc). It looks like it varies by source when it comes to campaign promises. Here's a couple I looked at. Campaign Promise TrackerTump-O-Meter

A nice roundup of the tariff and trade policies of the Trump Administration and how Republicans have voted against their own self-interest like they do every 2 years:

So I have just heard that his approval rating is starting to climb again. Is this true? One thing that has changed for me since relocating to China is that I don’t get a “Trump did this” message displayed on my phone screen every couple of hours anymore. The Apple News app which always kept me up to date actually doesn’t function here, and I’d have to run my vpn constantly to use it and actually read its stories, which kills my battery.
I believe he could win the next term, but that sure is a scary thought.

The Apple News app which always kept me up to date actually doesn’t function here, and I’d have to run my vpn constantly to use it and actually read its stories, which kills my battery. I believe he could win the next term, but that sure is a scary thought. It's waffled from about 41 to 48 percent approval since the initial high mark of 50-something literally the first week of the presidency. A little change now an again, but always not far from the statistical margin of error.
As it's been for about a decade, but now worse, hyperpolarization is is ruining competitive politics, largely because of gerrymandered districts where 90% of incumbents only have to make it through a partisan primary challenge and then they will coast to victory in the general election... but probably more importantly, the Internet of course has just polarized things even more because people get their news (and "news") from wherever you want.
It's the same reason why everyone over 65 seems to love the same old movies and TV shows. Well, yeah, you had 4 channels back then, you didn't have much of a choice. But if someone bottled up one of those shows today and erased its history, released it on CBS, it would die after one season. The same was true about news: you listened to Cronkite or Murrow and that's all.
There are probably about 15% of voters who are true moderates or swing voters. 40% will always vote Republican, 45% will always vote Democratic (Democratic voters outnumber Republicans, and have done so for many years, and of course have won the popular vote in all but two presidential elections from 1992 til today, including 2016 by 3 million people). Every couple years there is talk of a third party, but it's not happening because there are way way less people in the proverbial middle than even 30 years ago.
If Fox News was around during Watergate, Nixon wouldn't have been impeached, much less resigned on his own.
Anyway, I think it's likely Trump will win again, because there are enough people who will vote for him almost on a trolling basis, and plenty of others who now associate the "they're out to get him" feeling to empathize with him. It's hard to know who could beat him. If every eligible voter turned out, Democrats would never lose another presidential election. But that's just not the way it works.

So somebody in the international school from Nebraska sent a picture around to some of us, which was potentially the next cover of Time, which showed a cartoon style illustration of Trump with a paintbrush dripping with orange paint, and the whole wall is painted orange except for the corner he is standing in, and he is looking like he was just caught, wet-handed. Very clever image on so many levels.
I can’t possibly follow all the news about potential impeachment opportunities, but I’ve heard a lot. Does anyone have a very concise breakdown of this developing impeachment potentiality?

Ah i was thinking about reviving this thread... Here's your cover, by the way: Anyway, there is so much to talk about, but what i like about this impeachment effort is that it's almost entirely hinged on one very obvious impeachable offense: "do us a favor." I mean, it's right there. If we want to have the discussion here, i'd love to have it, but i know others get bored with my political posts or just don't read them at all. But i'd enjoy very much an intelligent discussion of why this is necessary.

I had gone in and out of having interest because at first it always just seemed like “oh yeah, he couldn’t possibly get away with that!” But then he always did. After a while, I just lost interest. But now I genuinely want to follow this, especially since from what I am seeing, this time it may be for real. I’m not quite sure what happened to bring us to this level.

As much as people want Trump impeached (for the 40th different time), it simply is not happening and he is currently the favorite (according to gambling sportsbooks) to become president again in 2020. Not trying to stir anything, just my honest truthful thoughts.
