Metal or non-metal, or one of both if you feel like it. Just wanna know what you pals like as far as production and mixing goes. You can even single out a specific instrument if you'd like.
My favorite guitar tone has got to be the one found on Black Breath's "Slaves Beyond Death." Between me and you, I think that if The Black Dahlia Murder played riffs with that mixing, it'd be over for the metal genre.
Also, I grew up heavily into deathcore and Suicide Silence's "No Time to Bleed" still holds the title for best mix of all time imo. It's cold and desolate sounding, but still retains the crunchiness I like in a breakdown. The drums sound dark and heavy with the snare retaining a metallic pang that you can only appreciate when there's nothing else going on. And Mitch's vocals sound killer with that empty, echo-heavy atmosphere the production team took on in the recording of this album.
I know that was kind of long-winded, feel free to go that in depth, maybe more, or just keep it punctual and abrupt if that's your thing. Feel free to link as much stuff as you want, I look forward to where this conversation can go.

I really love how the production sounds on the Drawing Last Breath LP especially on vinyl.
Also I love the snaresound on Shattered Realms "Broken Ties... Spoken Lies".

The drums on Metallica's St. Anger.
No?
Okay, for real, the mix on Bury Your Dead's Cover Your Tracks album, in particular the drums, is just phenomenal. The first few songs on that record, the way the percussion sounds... blows me away every time.
And on a completely different note, just the general production on Daft Punk's Random Access Memories is what made those Grammy awards legit. You can tell they literally did spend years making that record, and it's just so slick and perfect.
EDIT: Hey, 88 posts! Cool!

AILD - Frail Words Collapse Your Demise - The Kids We Used To Be ABR - Messengers Hoods - Pray For Death
Don't listen to these bands as often nowadays but I remember those albums sounding so crisp & clear.

Good call, I'd probably even say that I prefer the sound on "Sentenced To Life" more though

This is the first that comes to mind...
Matt Bayles did an incredible job on this. I love the progression on the Botch sound and how raw and dirty this record feels...

The Human Abstract - Nocturnal
I'll be popping in and out adding albums that I slightly remember over time.

The Human Abstract - Nocturne I'll be popping in and out adding albums that I slightly remember over time. I considered putting that in my post going off the strength of "Vela, Together We Await the Storm" alone. If that first riff were a woman I'd be in a happy, loving, respectful, and committed relationship with her.
