Pretty good. Better than i expected! Another Delaware hero for you. Jamie Foxx is the real star though. Amazing supporting role. A crime if he misses an Oscar nomination. letterboxd.com/v9733xa/film/just-mercy/

Made it a hat-trick of trips to the cinema this weekend... An intense experience. My friend almost walked out from the anxiety. Didn't realise it was the same directors as Good Time until afterwards, but it made a lot of sense afterwards. 4.5/5
Amazing visuals and incredibly well choreographed. The two things that stopped me from really loving it were the nondescript leads and a lack of substance. 4/5
My first exposure to Jodorowsky and it was an absolute ride. Elements of spaghetti westerns, Shaw Bros martial arts films and slapstick humour, with biblical allegory and impenetrable symbolism. It's kind of ugly to watch at times and I felt like it wavered between strokes of genius and strokes of shit. Either way, a unique experience. 3./5

Saw this yesterday. Pretty fun just as the first (or is it 3rd movie?). Also some surprising twists that sets up for part 3 of the Jumanji franchise with The Rock/Hart/Gillan/Black. 3.5/5

A stunning and difficult debut film for TEENAGE DIRECTOR Phillip Youmans, this is a pensive and emotional look at black southern life amidst religious hypocrisy. Needless to say, i loved it, despite some rookie errors for someone who WROTE THIS IN HIGH SCHOOL holy cow. It's on Netflix. Watch it. letterboxd.com/v9733xa/film/burning-cane/

1917
6/10 at best. The way it was filmed an edited was incredible, and it rightfully will win all of these awards. But being filmed in a bad ass way doesn't stop a movie from being bland. I was bored half the time, a lot of stuff made absolutely no sense, I don't know if my expectations were too high but I didn't enjoy this one.
I think a big part of my problem with it, is that it told a story in an entirely new way, and by doing so had to tell it's story in an entirely new way, and this new way is still something film makers need to learn a lot about, and I'm hoping if this style film continues to be made they will figure it out.
On one hand this movie needs to be celebrated for it's cinematography and craftsmanship. On the other it literally put me to sleep.
This may be the unpopular opinion but it's mine.

Very cute. Probably earned its Oscar nomination, but only because it was a very weak year for animation. A little overly complicated and one too many storylines, but beautifully drawn and pretty adorable. Merry Christmas! letterboxd.com/v9733xa/film/klaus/

I don't disagree with this at all but I rated it higher because the way it was shot just blew my mind. It was one where I found myself focusing on the form a lot more than the content, which probably isn't a good thing, and I doubt I'd find it so entertaining on a rewatch. At the time though, wow.

My local cinema put on a Makoto Shinkai double bill tonight. This was only the second (and third) time I've seen a screening of an anime film. I wish they did them more often because they look so good on the big screen. Only downside is the audience tends to smell worse than at regular screenings, but you get used to it after a while.
This was a rewatch, and from already knowing the plot, I found myself focusing more on the aesthetics, which I think are Shinkai's biggest strength. I love the look of the worlds he creates in his films - the colour palette, the way he blends in elements of realism, the landscapes and lighting.... There's a few scenes in this that immediately took me back to my trip to Japan a few years ago. 4.5/5 Another beautiful looking magical realism film about a teenage boy and girl. Maybe the most rain in an animated movie ever. The only downside of watching this as a double bill with Your Name was that it followed a pretty similar formula. I don't think it'd be as apparent without watching them back to back. There's a really cute cat. 4/5

Countdown (2019): "When a nurse downloads an app that claims to predict the moment a person will die, it tells her she only has three days to live. With the clock ticking and a figure haunting her, she must find a way to save her life before time runs out." Sounds extremely uninteresting, which makes me want to watch it. Β―\_(γ)_ /Β―

I went in with zero expectations since they only showed a short teaser trailer where they get the assignment and further no footage at all. The guy next to me went bonkers and thought it sucked because he thought he was getting a ''Fury'' movie with loads of action/blood/explosions.
