Can we please talk about how deathcore has completely owned 2017 so far? Everyone loves to proclaim that deathcore is dead, when in fact the only thing that is dead is Suicide Silence. If anything has been proven to be true, it's we don't need them. We're only a quarter of the way through the year, and have already seen amazing releases by bands like Enterprise Earth, Lorna Shore, Emmure, Fit For An Autopsy, Aversions Crown, and I'm probably missing one or two. We also have releases from bands like Oceano, Falsifier, The Acacia Strain, Shadow of Intent, Martyr Defiled, and Slaughter To Prevail slated to come out in the coming months. That's not including possible albums from Thy Art Is Murder and Rings Of Saturn.
I mean, holy fuck. What a year for heavy music and deathcore enthusiasts.

New Impending Doom is supposed to be out this year as well, as far as I know.

Can we include Emmure in that list? P-)
There were some amazing releases in the last quarter of 2016 too with A Night in Texas/Angelmaker, Science of Sleep, Walking Dead on Broadway, etc. I'd kind of stopped paying attention to the genre until then but it's like a second coming.

I don't consider Emmure to be deathcore, always thought of them as a metalcore band, same as TAS.
As for great deathcore, fuck, new Lorna Shore, Aversions Crown and re-recorded The New Reign are my top stuff RN.
And I would recommend a sweet band from Japan I discovered around 2 months ago, saw this vid and immediately got their EP.

The new Enterprise Earth is dope. The upcoming Oceano will be their best since Depths for sure

Emmure and TAS are definitely metalcore, I wouldn't even really call Fit for an Autopsy just deathcore anymore but that's splitting hairs. I'm glad you've been enjoying the release schedule so far, man! Unfortunately for me though, Deathcore is dead, and I can explain why.
Before bands really started conforming to the "Deathcore" sound, a lot of the bands making that music didn't really have a word for it yet and I remember seeing early groups calling themselves "death metal-core" and other clumsy shit like that. Interestingly enough though, that label actually serves to explain the key difference between "new" and "old" Deathcore. I generally consider bands with a legitimate full length out by 2009 or earlier as being "1st generation" and everything after as being "2nd generation" with Oceano and Thy Art is Murder basically serving as the dividing line. 1st generation bands took so much more influence from early-2000's metalcore bands (my true musical weakspot) like Dead to Fall, Darkest Hour, Unearth etc. and that influence seems almost absent from the 2nd generation bands. I feel like the 2nd generation bands focus much more on just being as fast, brutal and technical as possible. Which is cool, it's just not really my thing anymore. I've noticed it's bigger now for Deathcore bands to incorporate some Black Metal which makes things a bit more interesting, but Deathcore will always be bands like Rose Funeral, Molotov Solution, Knights of the Abyss, Elysia, Misericordiam, Salt the Wound, Carnifex and ABRB for me.

Deathcore isn't dead yet that's true, but am I the only one who enjoys older Deathcore bands waaaaay more, because of the lack of production and "skill"? Earlier bands (Myspace-Era) sounded so goddamn heavy! I have the feeling newer bands recorded in a doctor's office. But these are just my 2 cents.

The Diseased and the Poisoned by Carnifex blew my head off back in time. I also highlight '07-'08 era Whitechapel. The Somatic Defilement and This is Exile was the shit, not to mention Job for a Cowboy, Iwatchedherdie, Impending Doom, I Declare War, Hester Prynne, Ennui Breathes Malice, Disfiguring the Goddess (Oh, god, that collab with I Declare War guy.). This was the golden age of Deathcore for me too.
